Surfchex.com |

This is one of our most valuable tools for knowing what the weather is doing. Surfchex has a live weather station on the Oceanic at the south end of Wrightsville Beach. The weather station lets us know what the wind is doing right now at the south end. Currently we believe the weather station is reading about 4or 5 mph high. Surfchex also has live web cams that you can look at and see what the water texture is like. You can get an idea of what the wind is doing from what the water looks like.

Weather.com has many different maps that you can look at to see what the current weather is like. Many look at the maps with the isobars on them to see what the wind is doing. If the isobars are close together, means there will be wind, if they are far apart, there will be less wind. Closer the isobars are, the harder the wind will blow. The wind flows clockwise around high pressure and counter clockwise around lows

Intellicast has what they call Windcast. If you punch in the zip code of the area you are interested in, then click on wind or windcast a color coded map will come up. The colors indicate the strength of the wind. The lines on the map show the wind direction. The lines are not isobars and do not indicate the strength of the wind.

NOAA Web Site |
| |
Once you get to the site click on the water off of Wrightsville Beach. This will take you to a page with the detailed forcast. Most of the time you will get a 3-5 day forcast for the wind. You do not find wind forcast that extend that far in the future often. Of course a lot can change between now and the 3 or 5th day but it will give you an idea of what to expect. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a marine forcast. Sometimes the forcast will be a bit more than what we will get. Most of the time they are pretty close.
